WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY

THE DOMINION INSTALLATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. An interesting statement relative to tin 1 wireless station proposed to be established in New Zealand was made by the Prime Minister at St. Kihla last night. Sir Joseph Ward said the first wireless station at Wellington had already received messages from a distance of 800 miles, lie would reach Wellington in a day or two, and the Government would then accept tenders for the erection of wireless stations in New Zealand, two of which would be highpowered and four low-powered. The lowpowered stations would be ready in six months, and the high-powered in eight months. He hoped one of the lowpowered stations would be at the Southern Islands, where there had been many vessels wrecked on their way from Australia to London. In the next eight months, therefore, the Dominion would have a thoroughly up-tb-date wireless system and •wireless stations. Vlien they were in operation New Zealand would not be behind any other country in the world, and would be in communication with every passenger steamer around our coasts, and would be able to communicate at night time with any vessel within 1400 or 1500 miles.
