TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. The quarterly meeting of the Teachers' Superannuation Board reported that the roll showed a membership of 3247 contributors. The board granted various allowances, and also dealt with some cases in which pensions had been granted on the ground of medical unfitness, with a view to having the recipients medically examined as to their present physical condition. A deputation of holders, of bottle licenses had a private interview with Sir Joseph Ward this morning, pointing out that they had large stocks on hand, and last session's legislation meant great hardship to them. The Premier replied that he was unable to do anything in the matter. DISGUSTING LANGUAGE. • ' Dunedin, Tuesday, For having used disgusting language in Princes street last night William Brown was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. THE WAIHI MINE. Waihi, Tuesday. The following information as to Waihi, mine development was cabled to London' yesterday:—"Edward lode, No. 9 level, crosscut at 150 ft in north was worth 30s for 20ft, and in the south drive the crosscut, which is in 40ft, showed a value for this distance of £0 17s per ton." At the Police Court, Michael Brotossi, charged with having in his possession at Palmerston North on December 10 a mould for making counterfeit halfcrowns, was remanded to appear at Palmerston on the 20th inst. '
SUPERANNUATION BOARD. Wellington, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Public Service Superannuation Board a committee was set up to inquire into the rates of interest allowed by the Public Trust on superannuation fund investments; and as to charges made by that office for dealing with the fund. A committee was also set up to draft a regulation dealing with officers on leave without pay, and the amount to be paid by them while absent on such leave. The decision by the Supreme Court on the question of members of the Police Department who are not merged into the public service superannuation fund being able to pay for broken service was considered, and it was decided that service would be considered up to March 31. The amount to the credit of the fund on December 31 last was £254,015, an increase of £103,075 on the corresponding quarter of last year. The total annual amount l>f return allowances and annuities to widows and children on the schedule for last meeting was £l5B 14s lOd.
