CONFERENCE IX SYDNEY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 17, 9.45 p.m. Sydney, January 17. The Roman Catholic education conference convened by Cardinal Moran has opened. It consists of representatives of the clergy and Roman teaching orders, and; its Objects are to discuss education generally, to safeguard the interests of Catholic children and schools in what is termed the "educational crisis"; and to consider the attitude in connection wiub. bursaries and scholarships.
SPEECH 'BY CARDINAL MORAN. Received 18, 12.35 a.m. Sydney, January 17. Cardinal Moran, in opening the Education Congress, said that enemies of the church were seeking to undermine the very foundations of Christianity, and had vowed the total destruction of the church.
