GAOL-BREAKERS CAPTURED
AN EXCITING FINISH. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, January 10. The- gaol-breakers, Denmead and Pegs, alias Mace, were captured after an exciting chase. Detectives discovered that they were hiding in a house at Marrickville, and rushed it from front and back. The- escapees fled to the yard, and l'egg, despite the detectives' revolvers and threats to shoot, vaulted the fence, and jumped through a window into a room. He was secured after a fierce struggle. Denmead locked himself into a room, but the detectives smashed the door. Denmead then jumped out of the window, but was overpowered in the yard after strenuous resistance. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. Received 16, 9 p.m. Sydney, January 10. When Mace and Denmead were brought before the Court, the police, mi applying for a remand, stated that a fresh charge of breaking and entering since their escape would be made. On the way to the station, one of the men attempted to dispose of a watch, supposed to be a part of the proceeds of a city robbery on Thursday night.
