Bates' summary and 'forecast: The weather has been generally unsettled and squally, at times with a good deal of cloud and irain in places, he depression which was centred to the east lias decreased in intensity, however, and, excepting in the southernmost districts, fairer weather conditions have ruled to-day. Winds have been mostly moderate to strong southerly and westerly, but variable at times. A gale was experienced in Fouveaux Strait last night and early this morning. The weather will probably remain unsettled for a time, and showery in parts, especially in the southernmost districts of the South Island.
