THE SATURDAY COMPETITION. Saturday afternoon was warm and 1 bright, and the "conditions generally j under which the competitions were I played were all that could be desired. UNITED SERVICE v. INGLEWOOD. This match was played on the Recreation Ground, and resulted in a win for United Service by 30 runs. Inglewood went first to the wickets after a late start, and hit altogether a century—a total that one of the players in the early stages of the game expressed the hope to reach as ''that would be decent!" Five players reached douWe figures, Orbell (11), Thomas (10), Quickfall (11), Thomson (11), and Mcßac. (27), and there were four "ducks." Dinniss was most successful] with the ball, getting five wickets for 37 runs. The United Service's total was 130, Mackay's 41 and Osborne's 27 being the best of the double-figure scores; the former putting more wood into his hits than the latter player, as they both scored 21 times. Bowles made 18 and Napier 12. N. Sutherland's five wickets cost 02 runs and Thomas two at an average of eight per wicket. "Mr. Extras" in both innings had 12 to his credit.
