NEW SWIMMING CHAMPION

BEAUREPAIRE AND HEALY BEATEN. REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 15, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, January 14. Tremendous interest was displayed in the swimming carnival, the attendance being seven thousand, and as many more were turned away. The 100 yds championship was a great race, the first three finishing almost together, with Graham, a Queenslamler, the other starter, a yard behind. There were five starters in the threequarter mile championship, and the spectators expected a race between Healy and Beaurepaire, but Longworth led from the first lap, and steadily forged ahead. Healy and Beaurepaire raced together until 1100 yards had been covered, when both spurted for the remainder of the journey. Longworth won by twenty yards, with Healy three yards ahead of Beaurepaire. The time was six seconds better than Healy's record, and 22 seconds better than Beaurepaire's fastest. Hardwiek and Springfield finished, but a considerable distance behind. Longworth used the crawl leg action and the trudgcon arm movement.
