At Stratford on Tuesday there was a fair yarding. The, demand for all classesof stock was keen, and practically everything sold at the hammer «t prices slightly in advance of closing rates last year. At Stony River on Wednesday there was a good yarding. MATTHEWS & BEXXETTS REPORT. Mattli ws and Bennett report a fair .yarding .>f cattle at their Inglcwood yards on Wednesday last, and bidding was brisk up to the following prices:— Two-year steers £4 Is (id, hulls £3 2s to £5, old! cows £3 ss, store cows £3 18s, fat do. £4 17s, lj to 18-months steer* £3 to £3 Bs, .15 to 18-months heifers .1:3 7s 0:1, 3-year heifers U4 7s (Id to £4. 13s (id, ewe hogegts 13s Sd, wether do. 13s M)d, calves 22s to 345.
OTHER MARKETS. ADMXGTU.V At Adding! on live stock market there mere good entries of stock and a large attendance. Store sheep —Forward rape lambs were down about Od to Od per head, while medium sorts were easier by Is and upwards. The range of prices was: Forward rape, lambs 10s to Us, medium 8s (kl to Us (id, small to Bs. A line of twotooth ewes was passed at 13s '.),!. Fourtooth wethers made 12s (id to 13s 7d,a.nd ewes and lambs (all counted) (is Jd. Fat lambs Prime 17s to 17s Id, medium 13s 3d to 15s, lighter lis (id to lils. There were 30UI taken for freezing, 4i)7 by butchers, And DO were passed in. Fat sheep—Wethers were firmer and ewes advainci'd Is to Is 01 per head. Store cattle; —15 to 18-months sorts 30s to 50s, 2-year steers £3 10s (passed), 2%-year steers £5 8s Od, 3-year heifers £4* l os, dry cows 30s to £3* Ms. Dairy cows were in good demand at £3 to £lO. Pigs—Choppers were dull of sale, anil prices realised up to (iOs. Baconers were easier, large sorts making 50s to 50s, smaller 40s to 4!)s (.equal to 4'/ 4 d to 4'/ a d per lb). Porkers, on the other hand, improved in demand, large sorts making 32s to 38s, lighter 23s to 30s (equ:U to 4%<1 per lb). Stores were easier, large sorts selling at 22s to 20s Oil, medium 14s to 20s, small 10s to 13s, weaners 5s Od to Bs. BURXSIDE. At Burnside, 148 fat cattle were yard-i ed, and, if anything, prices were a shade better than was the ease last week. Best bullocks to £l2, good £0 15s to £lO 15s, medium £8 15s to £!) I,os, best heifers to £O, extra to £lO 10s, good £7 to £8 10s, medium £0 5s to £7. Fat sheep—There was a large yarding, 2556 being penned. The sale opened very dull, and several lots were passed at the commencement. Prices improved as the sale progressed, but they were about 3s lower all round as compared with last week. Best wethers 20s to 225, extra to 23s (kl, medium His 0,1 to Ms, inferior Ids Oil to 15s lid, best ewes 18s to 20s, extra to 225, medium 14s to 17s. Fat lambs—There was a large yarding of 980, which met with a very ready sale. A fair percentage was taken by graziers, but prices showed a decline of Is 0d to 2s per head as compared with last week's rates. Best, to 1.5s 3d, good 12s Od to 114s, medium 10s Od to 12s.
WAXCAXUI. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report on their Wanganui sale:—W,e yarded 1000 cattle and 7200 sheep, and we quitted .ill the cattle and 4500 sheep. Cattle, were well competed for, and late rates were maintained. Sheep were somewhat quieter than of late in eonsequence of lower prices for fat sheep, and a heavier yarding than usual. Aged ewes were dillicnTt of sale, high reserves hampering business to some, extent. Two-fool h wethers were ■slacker than at recent sales. and, altogether, we have to report a drop of from sixpence to a shilling per ■head in -sheep. We. quote: Forward bullocks £7 8s fid, 3-yenr do. MASTETU'OX. ' Messrs Dalgety and Co. report: There was a good attendance of buyers, and nil stock offered met wilh ready compel i-1 tion. The report adds: Our entry included a -first-class line of four and sixtooth wethers, which (although 13s 7d was bid for them) were passed in. In cattle we yarded some very goo.l bullocks, which met with good competition, those on account of Messrs Tiarton liros.j realising the following prices:—Four-year 1 bullocks £0 18s, 3-year bullocks £ll 4s, speyed heifers £4 3s fid, empty heifers £2 18s to £3 Bs. Sheap—Two-tooth ewea (very small) 9a lod, two-tooth wethers Hs to 12s, four
and six-tooth iwelhers up to I.ls 7d (unsold). JOHXSOXVHXE. Messrs Abraham and Williams report on their Johnsonville sale as follows: We offered a good yarding of bullocks, and a medium one of sheep, and both sold readilv at late rates.
