The test match entered its final stage to-day in fine warm weather, the attendance being 1500. Kelieway (33) and Carter (11) resumed their innings, with the total at 187, on a wicket' which, though slightly worn, was quite good enough for run-getting. Faulkner opened to Kelieway. His fourth ball Carter Bpooned to cover. Armstrong began with a two. Sinclair bowled at the other end. The score crept upwards with small hits. A pull to the boundary by Kelieway off Sinclair brought the total to 200 in 170 minutes, A square cut for lour off Faulkner took Armstrong into double figures. After a slow spell, Kelieway hit Sinclair to the boundary, making his fifty in 102 minutes. At 225 Schwarz and Pegler went on to bowl. Schwarz's first over had Armstrong tangled, but Pegler was expensive. Kelieway hit him for three, and Armstrong two fours to leg. Then Kelieway oanged Schwarz for four, and 250 came up for 208 minutes play. Llewellyn took tiie bowling from Schwarz at 251, and Armstrong hit each bowler for four, so Sinclair replaced Pegler at 263. Oft i his second ball Kelieway was snapped at the wicket. His innings was a great defensive effort, lasting 214 minutes, in which he hit six fours. Gehrs, the succeeding batsman, drove the first two balls to the boundary. At 284 Schwarz relieved Llewellyn. Gehrs scored a single, but the next ball bowled Armstrong, who had batted soundly for 77 minutes. Macartney was given out leg before at the first ball. The adjournment was then taken, with Gehrs' score at 18. Cotter stopped the hat trick, hitting the first ball for two. At 292 Gehrs was caught at the wickets. Cotter provided a sensation. He hit Sinclair and Schwarz for sixes, and also three fours. Pegler relieved Sinclair, and got Whitty at mid-on in the third over. The South Africans thus won by 38 runs.
