The' •■'; Australian tariff at the present time wm operating against New Zealand, and if . • * the proposal was carried into effect there was the danger that the islands would either become part of Australia . or be formed into a separate State of ' the Commonwealth, to the probable exelusion of the present New Zealand trade.
