SCORES OF WRECKS
FATALITIES ON THE ENGLISH COAST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January 12. Scores of wrecks and numerous fatalities have occurred on the coasts. The lifeboat at Deal was driven back, and capsized as she came ashore. Amsterdam, January 12. The steamer Selby Abbey, from Hull, bound for Rotterdam, is ashore at Hinderribben, near the Hook of Holland. Some were landed/ but twenty-four of the crew and five passengers are still on board in a high sea. Her position is dani gerous. GALLANT LIFEBOAT RESCUES. Received 13, 9.30 p.m. London, January 13. An abnormal gale is raging on the east and south coasts of Great Britain, the recorded velocity being sixty miles an hour, and occasionally of greater violence. Smaller vessels suffered severely. Lifeboats made a number of gallant rescues in the face of mountainous seas. The steamer Bushmills struck the Nimrod rocks, near Holyhead. The crew of 21, escaped in the boats. The lifeboat rescued the steamer Selby Abbey's passengers. Nine of the crew are still aboard.
