ESCAPE FROM DARLINGHURST
IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 11, 8.15 p.m. Sydney, January 11. A sensational escape from Darlinghurst gaol occurred early this afternoon, two young men named Mace and Denmead, under committal on a charge of stealing, leaving the exercise yard and, after crossing several walls and fences, scaled the outer thirty-foot wall. With the assistance of their braces, tied together, they dropped into the street, and got clean away.
The escape was made in view of a number of people. The first intimation that the gaol authorities had that the men were missing was from a tram-guard, who saw the escapees running away. One bystander watched the climb for liberty under the impression that some enterprising moving picture people had arranged the affair for biograph purposes. Immediately the authorities discovered the escape all available police were started in a hunt for the men, and they arc confident of recapturing -them. 1 " ''s-
