THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT
OPENS ON FEBRUARY 6. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 11, 10.30 p.m. London, January 11. The King opens Parliament on February 6. THE LIBERAL MAJORITY. SUFFICIENT FOR MR. JOHN BURNS. Received 11, 10.30 p.m. London, January 11Mr. John Burns, speaking at Battersea, said it was idle and childish, and almost cowardly, for the Opposition to say the Government's majority was not big-enough. Eighteen per cent, was a good dividend in trade, and an 18 per cent, majority in the Commons was equally good business. The last elections had destroyed the Lords' veto, their pretentions to tariff reforms, dealt a serious blow to conscription, and was the greatest rebuff to the vulgar, lying, sensational Press.
