STUDYING OUR LABOR LAWS
AUSTRALIAN STATESMAN FAVORABLY IMPRESSED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 10, 10.40 p.m. Sydney, January 10. Mr. G. S. Beeby, Minister of Education and Labor in New South Wales, has returned, with highly favorable impressions of New Zealand. He told an interviewer that what impressed him most was the entire absence of any signs of poverty or distress. Even in the larger centres of population there was no evidence of any form of them. Touching on industrial legislation, he sail that, from what he saw, lie was satisfied that if the New South Wales Government can come up to the New Zealand standard during the next three years, a great work will have been accomplished. The Dominion was far more advanced industrially than New South Wales. The outstanding feature of the Government policy of administering laws was the broad and sympathetic treatment. Every industrial law was treated as an actual reality, and both sides were compelled to fairly and honestly observe the laws us passed. He was favorably struck with the workings of the Government Insurance Office. Foreshadowing the reorganisation of the i?ew South Wales Department of Industry and Labor, he declared that he did not think they would improve much on the New Zealand system.
