The weather for the test was delightful, a trifle wanner than Saturday, ana the attendance was 0000. Cotter and Whitty resumed the bowling, and "runs earae steadily. Armstrong relieved Cotter at 292. <Snooke completed the third century in 315 .minutes, and his own lifty in 112 minutes. Three runs later Llewellyn was uniquely run out. The wicket-keeper chased a hit to an open space past point, and returned the ball to Armstrong as the second run was being tried. Armstrong had the ball thrown to the wicket a yard behind him, but reaching backwards between his legs he got the ball to the stumps in time. Llewellyn had batted soundly, and scored 43 runs. Sinclair brightened up the play slightly. Then Kelleway relieved Whitty, and he found a good length. At 330 Sinclair, feeling for off balls, turned one low to Armstrong at slip, and was cleverly caught. At the luncheon adjournment the total was 348, Suooke 07, Strieker 4.
Kelleway and Macartney bowled on I the resumption, and scoring was tedious-j ly slow. Whitty replaced Kelleway at 379, and Armstrong went on in place oi Macartney at 382. Whitty also bowled. Snooke hit 14 off the latter's third over, thus sensationally completing his century after lie had stonewalled for three and a half hours for 90.
The fourth century appeared for seven hours' play. Cotter and Whitty wertput on with a new tall. Off the former's first ball Snooke was caught onehaiuled by Keileway at second slip. Snooke had stonewalled for 215 minutes, ins work being exteremly valuable at a critical time. lie hit twelve fourers.
Schwarz was missed by Trumper in the slips off Cotter before he had scored. Strieker brightened things with three Tours off ore of Whitty's overs. Then Armstrong replaced Whitty, and in the second over bowled Schwarz. Nino for 429. Pegler stayed with Strieker till tea-time, both playing strictly for "keeps." At the adjournment the score was 4G2, Strieker 41, Pegler 15. At the first ball after the tea adjournment Armstrong, in the slips, missed Pegler off Cotter. Macartney was the other bowler. Then Gelirs and Armstrong went on. In the first over Strieker was smartly ' caught off Keileway at short slip. Strieker had batted for 139 minutes, in an innings lasting 4D3 minutes. The batting fairly wore down the bowling, for on the perfect wicket the bowlers were unable to turn the ball. Armstrong was easily the most dangerous. While the Australians strangely missed catches, their ground fielding was brilliant, "No-balls" accounted for eighteen of the extras, Cotter being responsible for nine, and Keileway for eight. . With an hour available, Keileway and Macartney opened against Llewellyn and Pegler. Only seven runs had been scored when Llewellyn bowled Macartney. Ransford was the next, and hit each bowler for four. Schwarz relieved Pegler, and at 27 Faulkner replaced Llewellyn. The batsmen were aggressive, and ran smartly between the wickets, where the Africans had lost many runs. Keileway drove hard, and Ransford placed cleverly, neither of them ever being troubled.
