PETROLEUM NEWS.

OIL IN WAIRARAPA. The report that an independent report is to be obtained upon the oilhearing properties in the AVairarapa will be received with some interest. Government geologists have been 'emphatic in the opinion that oil is to be found in paying quantities along the East Coast. The results of boring operations in the Gisborne district will be awaited with anticipation. It is tolerably certain that if petroleum is found in payable quantities in the Poverty Cay district, it will also be found on the coast to the east of Masterton, where there are numerous indications.—Wairarapa Age.
