THEIR NEW DEMANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Invercargill, Last Night. At a meeting of the Bluff Waterside Workers' Union, the following series ol demands were approved for submission to a conference with employers to be held shortly:—Hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., meal hour, 12 to 1. Wages foi handling general cargo (ordinary) Is 3d per hour, (overtime) 2s; coal, Is 6a and'2s 6d; trimming, 2s and 3s; carrying coal, 2s and 3s; repair work, Is 3d and 2s; in freezing chambers, Is 6d and ■la Oil; on wharf, Is 3d and 2s; coal chambers, Is 3d and 2s; guano and all manure in bulk, Is Od and 2s 6d; creosote, Is Od and 2s Od; nightwatchman, 10s per night; men to be paid for half an hour when they work over 15 minutes, and nothing for under that time. When men are ordered to commence work between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., and are not put on, they shall receive one hour's pay at overtime rate, viz., 2s; between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. they shall receive "two hours' overtime rate, viz., 4s; holidays to be paid at ordinary overtime rate; men not to be required more than six hours without a meal. The place of engagement should be on the wharf in front of Customs Office. The U.S.S. Co. to pay wages weekly on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., and other employers on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Whilst engaged in coaling work, the carrying baskets shall average 12% to the ton, and large 5 to one ton. The temperature of the meat chambers whilst the men are working therein shall not be lower than 12 degrees above zero. The usual clauses for preference to unionists are inserted. The proposed award shall apply only to casual labor-' ers employed from day to day, and from hour to hour, and shall not have reference to weekly or permanent employees. It shall apply to the wharves and grain stores at the Bluff.
