BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The ordinary monthly meeting of the Borough Council took place on Wednesday evening. The Building Surveyor submitted his half-yearly report, which showed new buildings and additions totalling £.ij!K) had been made from July to December. Several ratepayers on Princess street asked that the water mains be carried so that they might become users.—Referred to the committee. Messrs. W. Hoskins, J. Turner and S. Wilson asked for work to be done on Nelson, McNanghton and Broadway streets respectively.—Referred to the Works Committee to report at next meeting. It was resolved to ask the business people to meet the Council at an informal meeting on Monday next, to discuss the questio°n of Saturday half-holiday, which had been brought forward by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce.

Messrs. IT. Hall, T. Joll, W. Wills and .las. Rattenbury applied to havo the water main carried to their properties.— The Waterworks Committee to submit an estimate of cost and probable revenue. An auctioneer's license was granted to W. F. Jenkins.

The dog-tax was fixed at the same fee as last year, J. Nolle being reappointed collector.

It was decided that, before a license would be granted to St. John's' Hall, better facilities for egress must be provided.

Cr. Rattenbury reported on the conference held in New Plymouth re the appointment of a district health officer, and it was resolved to support the scheme, provided other local bodies did likewise. Cr. Tate's notice of motion re submitting estimates of costs of work, etc., was lost.

Accounts amounting to £O2 8s 7d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.

A man named Waters was committed to the asylum on Wednesday afternoon, having shown signs of an unbalanced mind.

A few days more and the landing stage and pontoon at the Waitara llowing Club's shed will be completed. The convenience will be appreciated.
