INGLEWOOD NEWS.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council was held on Wednesday cvenimr. There were present: His Worship the .Mayor and Councillors Young, Surrey, Tarplee, Fawcett and Bennett.

The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows: From Taranaki Chamber of Commerce with reference to a universal half-holi-day.—Resolved to forward copy to the Tradesmen's Association for perusal, and to confer with a committe from the AsI sociation.

From 11. B. Curtis, applying for asphalting of footpath.—Left in hands of Works Committee, with power to act. From M. Weeks, applying for plumber's license.—€lerk to write to Health Officer, asking him to examine Mr. Weeks, Mr Weeks to bear cost. Cr. Tarplee's report on the efficiency of the Fire Brigade plant was then received. The hose consisted of 500 feet new and 050 feet usuable, and the rest of the plant was in first-class order. — The report was adopted. Pegs for hanging hose are to be put in the station, and a derrick for drying hose to be erected to the satisfaction of Cr. Tarplee, and the captain of the brigade. A vote of thanks to Cr. Tarplee was accorded. Cr. Tarplee reported that he had gone to New Plymouth to hear the address from the Inspector-General of Hospitals, and to decide what steps the Council should take. Cr. Tarplee's recommendation was in the words of the resohitien passed at the meeting, and was adopted. The Council's contribution to the Hospital Board will be a little more than last year. A vote of thanks was accorded to Cr. Tarplee, and bis expenses were reimbursed.

Cr. Young, of the Works Committee, reported, that gravel would now be required, and he recommended that the works be left in the hands of the foreman. —Adopted. Accounts amounting to £lO2 16s were passed for payment.
