FATAL EXPLOSION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, January 4. An explosion of coal dust at a Portland cement works in Colorado killed ;six in the pulverising room. Nine men were blown out of the windows and doors, landing in the snow outside with ; their clothing alight. They rolled themselves in the snow, extinguishing the flames. ROYAL CONGRATULATION. London, January 4. The King, in a letter through his private secretary, Sir Arthur Biggs, congratulated the Daily Graphic on attaining its twenty-first birthday, and the successful way in which it is managed. He trusts that it will continue to enjoy many years of prosperity.
A STEAMER FOUNDERED. Londoij, January 4. The wreckage of the steamer Akim shows that the vessel foundered in the Bay of Biscay. A TRAIN ON FIRE. Warsaw, January 4. The carelessness of a passenger carrying a quantity of benzine set fire to a train at Grodno. Many were burnei. Several charred bodies have been recovered. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. London, January 4. ■Lieutenant Sackville West accidentally shot himself and died aboard the Endymion at Slfeerness.
AMERICAN RAILWAY COLLISION. New York, January 4. Two trains going in opposite directions collided at Spokane, aud five people were killed. THE NEW DREADNOUGHT. London, January 4. The new dreadnought Centurion will be begun next week at Devonport.
