AMERICAN ANTI-TRUST LAW
SHIPPING COMBINE PROSECUTED. By Cable—Press Association—Oopyright. Received 6, 12.40 a.m. New York, January 5. Suits seeking the dissolution of th» Atlantic Conference under the terms of the Sherman Anti-trust law have begun in the United States Circuit Court at New York. The companies forming the Atlantic Conference are the Allan Steam Ship, International Mercantile Marine, International Navigation, Canadian Pacific, Cunard, British and North Atlantic, Hamburg-American, Holland, AmericanNorth German Lloyd, Red Star, White Star, Russian East, and Asiatic. The Government charges the companies that they entered into an alleged contract in Feburary, 1908, at London, arrogating to themselves the power to apportion all trans-Atlantic traffic pro rata, and imposing heavy fines on members of the Conference if they violated the agreement. It is alleged that the Russian Volunteer fleet, and New York-Libau service were driven out of business, and the Russian-American Company forced to enter the Conference. The penalty il the Conference is not dissolved, will be the refusal of the United States Government to allow the companies' vessels to clear any ports.
