AN ISLAND MURDER
THREE TEACHERS KILLED BY NATIVES.

Dr. Deck, a missionary from the Solomons, reports that four months ago, in response to a request from the Rennell islanders, he established a school, and three native Malaiti teachers were sent to the island. Two days later the three teachers were killed. Dr. Deck declares that the natives had no grudge against the mission, and the loyal chief had nothing to do with the murders, which were committed by three men for the sake of the missionors' axes and other belongings. On the next visit of the mission vessel the islanders were quite friendly. (
