MAYOR'S RESIDENCE BURNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Hokitikn, Tuesday. The residence of J. A. Murdoek, Mayor of Kumara, was destroyed by fire on Saturday afternoon. Thu fire was caused by a spark from blackberry bushes being burnt near. The place was gutted, but a portion of the furniture was saved. The insurances are unavailable.

AT KAITANGATA. Dunedin, Last Night. A seven-roomed house, owned and occupied bv T. Reeves, was destroyed by (ire at Kaitangata this morning. Only a few articles were saved. The fire is supposed to have originated in the kitchen. The house wns insured for £l5O, and the furniture for £250, all in the State office. Mr. Reeves estimates his loss at £ooo over insurances.
