Sir Edward Grey, in a letter to the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection Society, states that the W'ilhelmstal Kaffir mutiny, in October last, was due to the d'eduction of pay and complaints of bad food. The strike had been embittered by anauempt to prevent strikers obtaining provisions; T'ie-*jjlway company, without the sanction lof the civil authorities, called out the troops, and this culminated in an affray. The German Government and the company were doing their utmost to remedy the condition?, and a special magistrate had been appointed to protect The British and natives.
