Bates' and forecast:—A westerly area Pwlow pressure passed over the South 'lsland on Monday with strong westerly winds, changing to southerly. Considerable rain fell on the West Coast of the South Island, and showery and changeable weather has been experienced generally. Heavy showers have occurred to-
day in many parts. Present indications are for moderate to strong westerly winds, veering to southerly everywhere soon. The barometer will probably rise slowly everywhere, with unsettled weather in parts, but improving generally in a short time.
