starter was loudly applauded for his splendid send-ofi'. Smilax immediately went to the front, and was never headed. Lothair was lying third and Golden Loop next. True Shot, who swerved out at the start, was last. Te Roti and Cyrene were together at the willows, Golden Loop rattling up fast in third place and True Shot improving. Golden Loop was first into the straight, and won very easily by. a couple of lengths from True Shot. Cyrene was over a length away, third, and then followed Te Roti, Miss Advance and Lothair. Con the Shaughraun dropped away back to last. Bow Bells appeared to stumble near the willows, but came fast before the straight was reached. Contralto was the first to turn for home, and won very easily by a length, and a half from Bow Bells. Con the Shaughraun came again in the straight and beat St. Helena for third money. There were twenty starters, and the race was won by three-quarters of a length in Imin 13 l-ssec. ELLERSLIE BLOOD STOCK SALE. By Telegraph.—Pr»Sß Association. Auckland, Saturday. There was an attendance of over five hundred at J. Williamson's stables at Ellerslie this afternoon, when Mr. H. 0. Nolan, on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, conducted a blood stock sale. The first nine lots offered belonged to Mr. William Patterson, of Motiti Island, and comprised yearlings and two-year-olds, most of whom were liy the Castor—Sapphire sire Motiti. Eiglit lots were disposed of for 188 guineas, the best figure reached keing GO guineas for a racev-looking yearling colt named All Worthy by Motiti from the now famous Tauriki. Six lots were submitted bv the Kai Iwi breeder, Mr. G. M. Currie, five of these lots being by Field Battery. Competition was keenest for a yearling by Field Battery from Our lady, a brother to Bronze, who lias been winning of late. This youngster reached 120 guineas, at which figure he was knocked down to the Te Awamutu owner, Mr. A. H. Dingle. In all, the six lots brought 2C7 guineas. Mr. H. R. MeKenzie, of the. Ascot Stud Farm, offered five lots, four of which were disposed of for a total of 102 guineas, the main contributor to this sum being a sturdy chestnut colt by Monoform—Daffodil, which was secured by the Gisbornc sportsman, Mr. F. Loomb, for 100 guineas. Mr. W. Dunn, of Rosedale Park, Pukekohe, sold three out of five lots for I'OG guineas. Mr. Donald McKinnon disposed of one lot and withdrew another. Three yearlings by Powerful, brother to Seahorse, were placed under the hammer by Mr. J. D. Kemp, of Awhiti, the trio bringing in 08 guineas. Of tliis lot one was a halfbrother to Electrakofl', which went cheaply at 3!) guineas to the owner of the' latter. Messrs R. and R. Duder parted \\ ith two out of six lots for 42 guinea.®. Two hundred guineas was offered for a brown filly by Soult-Cuirasette, at which figure the yearling was passed, the Messrs Duder expeeting'at least 230 guineas. Four out of the five lots submitted by Mr. E. P. Paul, of Mangere, were . passed. A two-year-old half-brother to Ngapuka realise:'. 40 guineas. Tn all 32 lots out of 4o were sold for 997 guineas.
