A thousand Powell Duffryn miners were bitterly disappointed when, on presenting themselves for work, they 'were informed that owing to the damage to the pit due to the stoppage being so great it, would be impossible to resume work before Monday. SCOTTISH MIXERS' CONFERENCE. London, December 30. The Scottish Miners' Conference asserted the right of unemployed to have work provided by the State at trade union rates, and denounced the appointment of mine inspectors by political and social influence. The Conference resolved that State ownership and control mean the ownership of tire instruments and all material for production and distribution, also t'hat miners should appoint Statepaid local pit inspectors.
