SAILED. Sydney, Saturday.—Sailed, at 3.30 p.m., Warrimoo, for Wellington. MAMMOTHS OF THE SEA. The Cunard Company, as briefly noted in a recent cable, invited Messrs John Brown, Ltd., of Clydebank, and Messrs Swan, Hunter, Wigham and Richardson, of Wallsend-on-Tyne, to tender for the largest passenger vessel ever designed. The Times states that the vessel will be for the Liverpool and New York service, and will be 8S5 l /»ft long by 95ft fiin beam, and will have a total displacement of 50,000 tons, thereby exceeding the tonnage of the Olympic by 5000 tons. The new Cmiarder will have a speed of 23 knots, against 21 of the Olympic and 25 of the Mauretania and the Lusitania. It is not decided whether one or two vessels will be built. The plans have been approved by Lloyd's. The huge ship will cost two millions sterling. Nothing is known as to whether the Government •will ibc asked to grant a subsidy. She will be propelled by turbines and will be fitted to carry oil fuel should it be considered prudent to use it. Her accommodation will include a Turkish bath, swimming pond, and theatre stage. She will acjammodate <iso first saloon, 740 and 2400 third saloon, or a passengers. She will have four fu^^^ With the steamer of the Cunard Line compared the similar vessel just laid Jown on the slips of the Stettin-Vulcan Shipbuilding Company for the Hamburg-Amerika Line. This ship will be 881 ft long, as compared with BS5'/l>ft of the new Cunardpr, while her beam, 100 ft, will be 4'/oft more. The tonnage of the two vessels will be the same—namely, 50,000 tons. Accommodation is to be provided for 5000 passengers. The commander's bridge will project 77ft above the water when the ship is fully loaded, and the mast will rise 208 ft above the level of the water.
