Peter Bowling's defeat for the presidency of the Employees' Federation is mainly attributable to the voting of the Maitland men. A DRAG OVERTURNED. Melbourne, December 29. A drag containing thirty picnickers overturned at Talangatta and was hurled down a declivity. A scene oi indescribable confusion resulted. All were injured, but none fatally. CHOPPING CONTEST FATALITY. Hobart, December 29. During a chopping contest at Pattersonia the head of an axe flew off, killing Collins, a spectator.
WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY. Sydney, December 29. A Riverina resident has invented a system of wireless telegraphy and has established connection through ninetytwo miles of earth.
TELEPHONE EARNINGS. Sydney, December 29. While the business of the postal and telegraphic departments showed a record increase during the Christmas season, telephone business showed a marked decrease, which is attributed to the toll system.
COMMONWEALTH NOTE ISSUE. Melbourne, December 29. The banks have absorbed £3,500,000 of the Commonwealth note issue.
PICTURE SHOWS. Sydney, December 29. Between a hundred and forty and a hundred and fifty picture shows are now runninjg in Sydney and suburbs.
