DARGAVILLE DOINGS
AND THE PENALTIES INFLICTED,
By Telegraph.— Press Association. Dargaville, Wednesday. A Maori named Jack Asliby pleaded guilty at the Helensville Court to-day oi cruelly ill-treating p, valuable young cattle dog by picking it up, swinging it round his head, and dashing it to the ground, causing its legs to be broken and its hip severely crushed. The dog was a valuable one, £lO having been refused for it by the same owner. Accused expressed regret, but said that the dog had been worrying his horses. He was fined £5 and costs, or fourteen days imprisonment.
A young man named Thomas Stewart, recently discharged off the s.s. Tuiranm because he was suspected of carrying liquor on board, on Christmas Eve violently assaulted Captain Sellars, and did his best to throw the skipper overboard. To-day he was brought before the Court and charged with assault and using obscene language. He was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative.
