By Ca&Je.—Press Association}.—Copyright. Received 30, 1.3 a.m. Melbourne,, December 29. The Federal Government fiext week will consider the Vancouver mail service, in the light of a new and important de velopment. Mr. Hughes a few days ago received a letter from a well-known firm in Sydney, intimating that a group of merchants and shippers was specially interested in the development of trade with Canada, and would be prepared, if the contract were once more thrown open to tender, to submit an offer in competition with the Union Company. Mr. Hughes states that nothing so far has been done in the way of negotiations, and the matter will have to stand over till the Postmaster-General returns to Melbourne.
