THE HOUNDSDITCH MURDERS

The police are impressed with the importance of the: papers (which were written in Russian and Yiddish) discovered at MerountzefFs lodgings, and since deciphered. They reveal a widespread echeme of robbery and, plunder, and indicate a number of places whereon the police are concentrating their attention. In addition to chemicals, a number of mechanical appliances were discovered in the rooms. Merountzeff posed as an artist. Neighbors stated that he often worked throughout the night. A woman, aged about thirty, a middle-aged man, and two respectably-dressed foreigners, frequented the house.
The police are trying to trace the origin of a fifty-seven pounds cylinder of gas discovered at the scene of the burglary.
An alien, a criminal in Parkhurst prison, informed the police that he would be able to identify hundreds. The Chronicle states that the police are considering a theory tliat Merountzeff had a gang preparing an.-anarchist outrage during the Coronation festivities.
