STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(Brom Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. The air-gun was the cause of an accident here yesterday. A boy named. Brown was playing with another lad, who was the owner of a gun. In showing how it worked, the gun was discharged and the pellet struck young Brown in- the eye. He was taken to Wellington to-day to have the eye examined.
Dr. Paget was presented with a Thermos flask by the nursing staff of the hospital on Saturday. Mr. G. Phillips, of Stratford, met with a serious bicycle accident yesterday. He was going to Ngaere, and when just outside Stratford encountered two vehicles. Just as Mr. Phillips was opposite them, the trap which was behind tried to pathe other, and in doing so came .in contact with Mr. Phillips, knocking 'him off the bicycle. He sustained a deep cut on his forehead, which necessitated six stitches being put in. Hia legs weTe badly injured, and he received many bruises and abrasions.
The work of improving the portion of Orlando street between the East road and Victoria Park is being proceeded with, and when completed will do away with what has been one of the eye-sores of the town. There are a good many places remaining to improve, but until the town makes up its mind to indulge in a loan for road construction they must remain in their present state.
