BOY WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph.—P»ees Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui Rifle Association's annual meeting was concluded to-day in fine weather. A light steady'wind" was i blowing, and shooting conditions were good. • The Wellington Match, of ten shots at SOQ yards, was won by Sergt. Davies, of t}ie Taranaki Rifles, with a score of 49. He takes £4. > Corporal Given (City Rifles)', Lance-Corporal Hunt (Zealandia Rifles), and Rifleman G. Hyde (Opaki). made 48, and take £2 10s, £2 and £1 10s, respectively. Sergt. Cannon (Wanganuil Highlanders), Rifleman Winslade (Opaki), Sergt. Hugo (Zealandia Rifles), Lieut. Butler (Hutt Valley Rifles), Rifleman. Gi Haljiday (Karori), Rifleman Guy (Kaponga), Sergt. Dodd (Manchester Rifles), and Rifleman Duffle (Christchurch) too £1 each. The Masterton Match, ten shots at 600y:15., was won by Rifleman Jenkins .(Okato), who takes £4; Rifleuian Jones (Opaki) £2 10s, 48; Captain Balkrop (Manchester Rifles)£l 15s, 48; Lieut. Hollpd (Hmtt), £l', "48; Rifleman Marshall (Karori), £1:, 48; Rifleman Guy (Kaponga), Rifleman Lewin (Opaki), Banks (Kimbolton), Jarvis (Taradale), Danrell-.'(Akarama), Atkinson (Aueki land),. Glacken (Himitangi), and Duffie ' (Christchurch), also .took £l. each. Manawatu Match, tp shots at 800 yds., was wop by Rfm. Dam-ell (Akarana), £4, 49; Qiiartermain (Wanganui Rifles), £2 life,' .49; Laiice-Corpl. Hunt (Zealandia Rifle's), £'2, 48; Private. Meyhew (Manchester Rifles), £1 liOs, 48; Cameron .(Opaki), Beetham (Opaki), Sharland '(Stoke Rifles), Sergt. Head (Royals), Gilshnan (Palmerston), Harrison (Wanganui Rifles), Govenlock (Woodville), -and McLachlan (Petone), took £l. . The North Island Championship Belt and Gold Medal, and £3, were won by Lance : Corporal Hunt, of the Zealandia Rifles, Wellington, with 288. King (Opaki), was second, with 288; Rfm. Danreir (Auckland), 285; Cameron (Opaki). 285; Harrison (Wanganui), 284; McLachlan (Petone), 283; McCalmont (Oprtki), 281; Dodd (City Rifles), 280; Duffie (Christchurch), 280. Hunt and ?g.in,g having tied, and also Danrell and Cameron, these had to shoot off, Hunt, scoring three more than King, who missed the target with one shot. Danrell also scored three more than Cameron.
Hunt is an 18-ym-old boy. He is an ex-member of the \vanganui Defence Cadets?. As a tyro in lflOQ he won the belt open to his company, beating some firstclass shots.
The last try match, seven shots at 500 yards, was won by Allen (Wanganui). with 35; Jarvis (Taradale), Bairstow (Opaki), and Mcintosh were the other placed men, with a similar score. The teams match was won by Opaki No. 1, with 475 points,, for the fifth year in succession. Taradale made 473, Petone 462, and Wanganui Rifles 461.
