BOY ASSAULTS HIS MOTHER
A CHRISTCHURCH CASE. Br Telograf*.— Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. At the Police Court this morning Henry Close, 17 years of age, was charged with assaulting his mother. Sub-Inspector McGrath stated that on the 18th inst. the youth had threatened his mother with a loaded revolver, of which the police hod obtained possession. He seemed very sorry that he had acted in such a manner, and no further steps .were taken. However, last evening he had assaulted his mother, seizing her by the throat. In reply to the Magistrate, Mrs. Close stated that the youth never worked at anvthing for any length of time. * The Magistrate (Mr. H. W. Bishop)' said that he would place accused under some control. He would be nominally' sentenced to one month's imprisonment, and instructions would be given to have him kept apart from other prisoners. A recommendation would be made in the proper quarter to have the accused placed ifi some reformatory institution.
