143 BODIES RECOVERED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, December 23. Thirty-six bodies have been recovered at Bolton. Rescue parties from various Lancashire pits continue exploring in turn. ' The King gave £SOO, the Queen £IOO, Queen Alexandra £IOO, and' Baron De Forest £IOOO to the relief fund. Many local funds are being established. A SAD TIME FOR THE WOMEN. London, December 25. It is estimated that the dead will leave 1600 dependents. One woman lost her husband, four sons, and two nephews, Another lost thirty relatives. Already £17,000 has been subscribed. Pitiable scenes were witnessed a,t the company's office when the women were drawing the final pay of the dead; also at the mortuary, where the relatives, passing the rows of dead, raised the sheet of each bed. The faces Of the dead had been washed, but were still of inky blackness. So far 143 bodies have been recovensd. A hundred rescuers continue exploring. NEW ZEALAND HELP. / Auckland* Last Night. The Premier, on behalf of New Zealand, cabled £3OO to the Lord Mayor's Fund, for the wives.and children of the.men killed at the Bolton colliery. EVIDENCE AT THE ENQUIRY. 'GAS IN THE MINE. London, December 26. Evidence at the Bolton enquiry showed that a number of the deceased a fortnight ago complained of gas, and intended to seek employment elsewhere. General Booth has offered to place fifty of the orphans iii suitable homes.
