THE HOLIDAYS
NORTH TARANAKJ FIXTURES. There will be no lack of opportunity during the holidays in the matter 01 entertainment. THE RACES. On Monday and Tuesday the Taranaki Jockey Club's races will be held on the course, and some good sport may be anticipated. "Moturoa" deals with the ' prospects of the meeting in his "Turl Topics." THE ELTHAM GALA. With the great majority of holiday seekers, particularly those wtio are not interested in horse-racing, the prime attraction will undoubtedly- be the great Axemen's Carnival at Eltham. This gathering needs no "puffing;" the marvellous success of previous carnivals is sufficient to guarantee that amusement and to spare will be provided for every patron. There is a great gathering of axemen and cyclists in Eltham awaiting the contests, which commence before noon on Monday and conclude about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Excursion fares and special trains right to the gates of the park will no doubt carry thousands to the controlling centre of bushmanship on Monday and Every convenience for the comfort of patrons is . provided on the ground, including a table "'d'hote Incheon in the permanent luncheon rooms, afternoon tea, soft drink booths, picnicking conveniences, etc., and plenty of excitement. No one should ask for more. PICNICS. There will be several picnics, of course, and seaside camping parties promise to be plentiful. Many local residents intend spending the Xmas holidays at the North Egmont Mountain House. THE THEATRE. On the evenings of both days the Theatre Royal will be occupied* by Clarke and MeynelPs well-known company in "Mr. Preedy and the Countess" and "Tht Night of the Party."
