SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON
HIS NEW'ANTARCTIC WORK. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. London, December 21. Sir Ernest Shackleton, interviewed, said he intended to continue lecturing till the last of the expenses of his Antarctic expedition were cleared, which might possibly be by May. His projected circumnavigation of the Antarctic continent would take two or three years, two ships, and Hfty men. Owing to the great risk of parties being left behind, he proposed that there should be three landing parties of nine persons, each SOO miles apart. They would sail from the east to the west with the wind and tide. Their civilised base would be Melbourne, and other bases would be established at Cape Adair, Sabrina Land, and Enderby Land, with two years' stores. The vessel would collect the parties the following year or the year after. It would take five months to equip the expedition, provided the money required was forthcoming.
