An Aucklander, who has just returned from a visit to a remote part of the Far North, says he tailed last week at a little farm on which an old pioneer of the district lived a lonely life, and was asked the latest news. "Nothing out of the ordinary," replied the city man, "except that T see old Tolstoi is dead at last." The pioneer scratched his head, reflectively. "Tolstee!" he exclaimed. "No! I can't saw as I know'd 'im. But, lor! He'd know me well enough, I've been in .this 'ere place nigh on to 40 years!" . . .
