AMUSEMENTS.
j "MR. PREEDY AND THE COUNTESS." ] An interesting theatrical event is fixed I to take place at the Theatre Royal on Monday night, December 26, when Messrs. Clarke and Meynell will introduce Mr. George Willoghby and his English Farcical Comedy Company in R. C. Carton's latest and wittiest comedy, "Mr Preedy and the Countess." When originally staged at the London Criterion, this piece ran for over a year, and was universally acclaimed by the critics.as a genuinely funny piece. One wellknown paper dubbed it "a perfect maelstrom of mirth." Another journal roundly declared that "the playgoer who wants mirth and misses the acquaintance of "Mr. Preedy and the Countess' deserves never to enjoy a smile again." During the past two months or so Mr. Willoughbys company has been playing "Preedy" throughout Australia, and the Commonwealth press has in every case confirmed the verdict of London. In order to ensure an adequate representation of the comical comedy, Mr. Willoughby has formed a very strong company. Its ranks will include Miss Beatrice Day and Mr. Harold Parkes, 'tfho will play the title parts. It should prove interesting to see Miss Day in comedy after her recent appearance in drama. The other members of the company will include Mr. Willoughby himself, Miss Amy Willard, Messrs. Hugh C. Buckler, Harry Halley, Arthur Cornell, and. Harry Overton. The box plan opens this morning at Collier's, where seats may also be reserved for "The Night of the Party," which brilliant farce will be staged on Tuesday night with Miss Beatrice Day as Gipsy Vandelier.
