WAITARA NEWS

(From Our Own Corresponded.) A perusal of the report and balancesheet of the Regatta, committee show that they were unfortunate in selectin" New Year's Day for the annual fixture, as on that date races were held at Stratford, while New Plymouth's monster picnic was fixed for the same day, the natural result being that visitors from both places were almost a minus quantity. The committee lost £3B 15s 4d on the actual year's working, and have now only a credit of £1 8s 5d to start again, a position they have not been in for some 20 years, there always having been a "nest egg until now. However, experience teaches, and with a date, probably early in March, that will not clash with any big function, the committee may be able to pull things together again. The fixture is a popular Taranaki one, and it is to be hoped there will be no cause to drop it. The annual meeting takes place at 8 o'clock this evening in the Clifton Club's hall. _ A further meeting of the Fire Brigade Floral Fete committee takes place at 7.30 this evening in the Clifton Club's hall. , „ , The s.s. Opawa arrived on tsunaay evening to load produce for Home.
