SWIMMING.
(By "Splodge.") Matters natatorial have locally this last week been at a standstill. Reason .—the weather. The sports to have been held on Wednesday were put off till Friday on account of. the production of "Elijah," and on the latter day the weather necessitated a further postponement till to-night. May the Club's luck change this time. Cecil Healy's Australian record of lmin 34sec. for luOyds is li l-ssec slower than C. M. Daniels' world's record for the distance, At Sheffield, England, on October 22, I\ A. Unwin, of that town, broke the 150 yds back-stroke record, his time 'being lmin 55 l-ssec. While Mr. W. Henry, secretary Royal Life-Saving Society, was in Sydney, Cecil Healy demonstrated to him that it is possible to swim a mile using the crawl stroke only. Healy's tiriie for the distance was 24min 44sec. Auckland swimm-ers are trying to induce Beaurepaire, Healy and Wiekham +o pav New Zealand a visit next month. The former has definitely refused, but it 1 is said that the latter two may be induced to make the trip.
