N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

TARANAKI EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the Taranaki Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at Hawera on Wednesday. Present: Messrs Jones (chairman), Davidson, Thomson, Maxwell, Lambie and Virgin. Mr. J. Livingston forwarded a donation of £l, saying that he would make an annual contribution of a like amount. —lt was decided to write a letter of thanks to Mr. Livingston. * The Wanganui Education Board advised that it was willing to alter the conditions of the proposed agricultural scholarship. The Board had previously stipulated that a lad taking up a scholar- * ship should take up the work of instruc-. tion after completing his scholarship, but at the last meeting of the Executive it was decided to ask the Board to make it optional. T« this the Board lave agreed. The Executive decided to thank the Board for its concession and to inform it that the branches would be notified of the alteration, and asked to support the scheme. A letter was. read from the Public Trustee re lands for leasing in Parihaka blocks, saying that he did not feel justified in departing from the recommendation of the Reserves Agent as advertised. To increase the amount of compensation for improvements might unduly burden the reversion. ' It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Maxwell and Lambie, that the letter be acknowledged and the Public Trustee be informed that the Executive greatly regrets that he cannot see his way to alter conditions so as to allow a more reasonable amount for improvements, and whilst noticing his remark that an increase might unduly burden the reversion, the Executive cannot see that that justifies the greater portion of the lessee's necessary improvements being confiscated. Mr. Thomson referred to a matter which required the consideration of the Executive. He believed there w,as an arrangement entered into between a committee of farmers and members of agricultural l firms whereby firms could not, undersell local manufacturers. He moved that information be obtained from the Dominion Secretary on the matter. —Mr. Maxwell seconded the motion, which was carried. . j The season's greetings terminated the j meeting.—Star. \
