RIFLE SHOOTING
TRIANGULAR MATCH. A triangular match was fired on the local range yesterday afternoon between teams from the Taranaki Rifles, Guards, and Stratford Rifle Club. As it was raining all the morning, and did not show any signs of clearing, the local teams decided not. to shoot, but as theweather cleared a little "and ia vi«w of the fact that the Stratford Club team was in town, it was decided to go on with the match. Groat difficulty was experienced an getting the teams and markers together, but with the assistance of the cadets sufficient markers were obtained, and a start was made at about 2 p.m. instead of 12.30, as originally intended. The wind, though fairly strong at 800 and 900 yards, was regular, with the result that some good scores were registered at these ranges. The Rifles' team averaged two points over 32 x / 2 at 800 yards and 31 %at 900 yards. They led their comrades-in-arms (the Guards) by 12 points at 800 yards, 11 points at 900 yards, and three points at 1000 yards. All the Stratford men fired before the other two teams at 1000 yards. Towards the end of their shoot, a dense mist, turning into a driving rain, came up the range; only Lieuts. Marett and Willis of the local men were down at the time, and they experienced | the worst of the weather. Possibles wep made at 800 yards by Lieut. Marett and Private Blanchett. The match resulted in a win for the Rifles by 26 points from the Guards. The Stratford Club, who were not represented by their best team, were a long way in the rear. Corporal Bruce was top scorer for the day with 98, an excellent score on the day. The following are the scores:—
TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Taranaki Rifle Association was held in the .Drill Hall laet evening, Lieut.-Col. Okey,V.D„ presiding. It was resolved to hold a rifle meeting on February 26 and 27.
