DISTRICT NEWS.

MAKETAWA. (From Our Own Correspondents.) The Durham-road creamery has started taking in milk. Wednesday was labelled as the opening day, and will be remembered also in many other ways. The sixteen suppliers must notice a very great difference in the time saved. Master A. Dodunski, son of Mr. F. Dodunski, while going 'home from the creamery, was thrown out of the cart rather heavily on to the road. At time of writing I am unable to say whether the injuries are very serious. Mr. F. Marsom; Norfolk-road, has sold his farm to Mr. 'Meehan. The weather for the past week, though wet, has not been any drawback' to the well-being of the cattle, and we are now enjoying warm sunny days. The nights are a bit coldish, consequent on the 'heavy layer of snow that old Egmont has thought fit to clothe himself with. The friends of Mrs. Joe Corney, senr., will regret to hear of her very' serious illness, she having received a severe paralytic stroke. Latest enquiries find no very great improvement in the condition of the sufferer. _ The Durham-road picnic is evidently going to have ifine weather, and no doubt the attendance will be good in conseThe "nippers" are in for a good time by all accounts.. During the latter portion of last week a son of Mr. J. Dodunski, while having a "lift" up the road in a milk-cart on the way to school, fell backward out of the cart and sustained a broken arm and a severe bruising. The little chap, I hear, is doing very satisfactorily. Mr. W. Buekthought, one of the largest suppliers to the Maketawa factory, has decided to go in for cheese-making, and 'started this week on his venture. Mr. Buckthouight's contribution from somewhere near 100 cows will be missed from the factory.
