FORGERS PLEAD GUILTY. J By Telegraph.—Press Association. J Gisborne, Thursday. ' 1 John Kettles, a recent arrival from Scotland, was charged with having forged the name of a mate on the railway works to a post office withdrawal order for £lB 19s. He pleaded guilty, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for ssntence. Accused, after obtaining the money, went to Dunedin, where lie was arrested. Christchurch, Thursday. Peter John Lewis pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to having forged and uttered a Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal slip for £2O, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. SCHOOL ESSAY PRIZES. Wellington, Thursday. The prizes given by the British and Foreign Sailors' Society to pupils attending schools in the colonies for the best boy's or girl's essay on "Arctic Explorers and the Benefits arising from their Discoveries" were won by Mabel Oliver and Eunice Wizenberg (Onehunga District High School), equal, W. Wilton (Wanganui Collegiate School), and Gordon Saunders (Ngaere) in North Island schools, and Cyril King and Harry Christie (Waitaki Boys' Scheol), equal, Johanna Brosnan (Lawrence), and Horace Simon (Waihopai) in South Island schools.
