CONFERENCE ENDS IN A DEADLOCK. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Adelaide, December 15. The Strike Conference of employers and employees sat till after midnight, and ended in a deadlock. Serious trouble is expected. STRIKE PRICES RULING. Received 16, 12.30 a.m. Adelaide, December 15. The strike leaders express their willingness to hold another conference, and state they are prepared for a big tussle unless the employers concede their demands. The effects of the strike are becoming widely felt. Prices of milk, groceries, and produce are rapidly advancing, and, in some cases, prices have doubled and trebled. Coal is getting very scarce, and many works will be compelled to close, failing a quick set-: tlement. There was a sensational development to-day. The men employed at the electric power works refused to handle the coal, declaring it had been brought to the works by non-unionists. This meant that the trams would have to cease running. After a conference between the Premier, the chairman of the Tramway Trust, and representatives of the Drivers' Union, it was announced that a settlement had been reached whereby the trams would continue running, at least for to-day.
