DISTRICT NEWS.
KORITO. (From Our Own Goampondent.) On Wednesday evening a double lecture was given in the Primitive Methodist Church, ■ the first part being given by the Rev. J. Nixon, on prominent statesmen in the past m the Dominion —a very interesting account of what he knew of them personally. The second part of the lecture was given by Mr. C. Warren, who gave an account of his recent travels around the world. Both lecturers were well received, and were accorded a good hearing. This occasion being the farewell visit of the Rev. Nixon, a large number of friends igathcred to wish him good-bye. The proceedings closed with the singing of "God be with you till we meet again." Four sixth standard girls from the . local school sat for their annual examination at the Central School last week, and all gained certificates of proficiency, ' / a result which must be very gratifying ■ to the teaqher (Miss Stewart) and also 'i to the parents. "Hie pupils were, Ruby '5 Herbert, Lucy Molloy, Dorrie Miles, and Ellen Warren- The school closes on Fri- s .-5 day for the mid-summer vacation, much j •to the delight of the children. The potato blight has made its ap- .. pearance, but is not so severe as in other :'i years. Farmers are busy cleaning land and ploughing ready for turnip crops. -■ 'A sow belonging to Mr. Willie Chat- ■/ terton gave birth to nineteen young ones \ last week, which is probably a record , in pig breeding for the district.
