BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The monthly meeting of the Council, held last -evening, was attended by His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Tisch), Crs. E. Dockrill, F. C. Bel I ringer, J. West, A. E. Watkins, J. Clarke. J. T. Mannix, G. W. Browne and F. E. Wilson. GOOD TEMPLARS' HALL.
Messrs. G. H. and X. T. Maunder and F. Pepperill, representing; the Good Templars, waited upon the. Council and ashed when the block of soil on their property was to be removed, as promised six months ago. They had let a contract for a building, which had to be finished within thirteen weeks, and they wanted to know where they were. Unless they got possession of the site in a week, or before Christmas,, it would be impossible to have the building ready by the middle of March. It was explained that when the Council undertook to remove the soil they did not know what they were tackling. The matter was dealt with in the Works Committee's report, which recommended the removal of the soil. This recommendation was adopted, it being plainly pointed out to the deputation that the work would take some weeks/ and that the ground would not be clear for the contractor before the new year. HOBSON STREET CULVERT.
Cr. Wilson's notice of motion, that the work of Hobson street culvert be proceeded with at once, was seconded by Cr. Watkins. ■ Cr. Clarke moved, as an amendment, that the engineer report on the cost of putting in reinforced pipes' in lieu of a culvert—Seconded by Cr. Dockrill and carried, the mover of the motion stating that he was satisfied as long as the wort was done this summer.'
GENERAL.
Permission was given to the Swimming Club to use the Municipal Baths on the evening of the 16th inst., when a sports meeting will he held. Extension of time in connection with drainage work was granted to Mr. MeManus until March 31. ' Some discussion took place on the suggested plan of subdivision of the Avenue road reserve, which was adversely criticised by Cr. Wilron. The matter will come up again at next Council meeting. Resolved, that the Harbor Board bei permission to paint the tower of the Baths in wlnli. a* ;< beacon, provided it is repa-.nvi ■'• in its original color within twelve months. The engineer wrote, stn ting that he had perused the specifications for pipe lines as instructed, and found that a 60in. to 48in. line of pipes, with valve at the lower end, to connect with present 21in. pipe, had been provided for, but he did not think it advisable to call for tenders for this part of the work until plans and specifications for the forebay are available—Referred to His Worship the Mayor to report upon. Messrs. Wilson wild Ore- solicitors, New Plymouth, wrote on behalf of -V'r. Or. Mannix was appointed to the following committees: Works, Electric Li"ht, Baths, and Western Park. A letter from Inspector Tippins witn reference to vehicle licenses was referred to His Worship to deal with.
