THE YARRA FATALITY. By Cable— Frese Association — Copyright Melbourne, December 12. The steering gear of the Yarra was not working smoothly, and Robertson went aft to inspect it. The roll of the vessel threw him overboard, and he received a wound on the head, probably from the propeller.
MR. HUGHES' SPEECH.
Melbourne, December 12.
■Mr. Hughes said that lie hoped he would never see the day when the Australian Navy would be put to the test, but if it did come they would then be glad they had done -something to prepare for that test. This nucleus of a navy was not a menace of war. The State Premier claimed that if Australia had the opportunity she would be able to show that she could build as good ships as any port in the world.
